How do I get started?

Contact The Synergy Academy™ by email to Info@TheSynergyAcademy.com or by calling 800-526-4790. A periodontist consultant will respond to answer all your questions and get you started.

Can I earn CE credits?

Yes. One credit awarded for each hour of instruction.

How do I prepare for the in-office course?

Preparations will be arranged much before the day of the course. That will include at least 2 telephone and/or webinar type communications that are prerequisite conferences with a Synergy Academy Periodontist Consultant for patient case selection, scheduling, literature review, etc.

Can I share the day with another dental practitioner?

Only another dentist that is a co-owner or an associate affiliated with the office may participate, but the hand-on experience is only one on one.

Who pays the periodontist instructor?

All payments to the faculty instructor and assistant are rendered by The Synergy Academy front office.

Who collects the fees from the patients and competes the insurance information?

Financial arrangements for payments of the surgery is the responsibility of the dental practice. All fees that are collected are the responsibility and property of your practice.  Insurance claims and subsequent collection is the responsibility of your office.

Who provides the assistant?

The course instructor will provide an assistant for the day but it is advisable that your assistants participate in the training and actual surgery.

Can I learn more than one surgical procedure at the same course date?

No. Because of time constraints, only one specific surgical course is provided per day.

What if I can’t find the 4-6 procedures on my patients for the course?

It is desirable to have the ideal amount of procedures available for the day to maximize participation and productivity of the day’s work. The date of the course will be established when the desired number of patients are appointed.

How do I deal with post-operative care and emergency care?

The periodontist will instruct you and your staff as to the appropriate post-operative care for each surgical procedure performed. It is your responsibility to arrange and administer all the post-op and emergency care as required. It is rare that emergency care will be necessary but the course instructor will provide information and directions if an emergency arises before the post-operative appointment.

What kind of equipment/supplies will the instructor bring to the general dentist’s office?

The periodontist instructor will be expected to supply the items listed below for dental implant surgery. This is in addition to anything specific they prefer to carry for rendering treatment for this or other surgical procedures.

  • Implant motor
  • 3 contra angles heads
  • 2 Nobel (or similar) implant kits
  • Assortment of implant fixtures
  • Healing caps
  • Surgical instruments
  • Backup bone graft and membrane (in case the office forgets to order that day)
  • Assortment of sutures

What will I have to supply the day of the course?

You will supply all other equipment/supplies to successfully complete the surgical procedures on your patients. This includes but is not limited to: disposables, sterilization equipment, basic dental instruments, anesthetic and radiographic equipment/supplies. The periodontist instructor may supply specific equipment/supplies if they prefer.

What if a patient does not show or cancels the appointment?

You are responsible for providing the pre-arranged number of patients for the day of the surgery. Last minute cancellations and no-shows can occur but with enough cases appointed in advance it should not disrupt the course.

What if I don’t want to personally do the surgeries on my patents in the future?

Some dentists want to do it all and others find that it may be desirable to arrange for a periodontist to complete additional surgeries. You may consider referral to your usual periodontist or hiring an itinerant periodontist to complete care in your office as an independent contractor.

How do I find an itinerant periodontist?

Contact Synergy Specialists (www.SynergySpecialists.com) They are experts at finding a perfect fit for you and have provided specialists for hundreds of offices across the country.

Does it matter if I am left handed or right handed?

It matters only if your treatment room does not convert to either side.

What will I need to continue with the new procedures in my practice?

Most of what you require may already exist in your armamentarium however, any other instruments, materials, or supplies are readily available for purchase with your dental supply company.

How can The Synergy Academy help my general practice?

The Synergy Academy courses will substantially increase in-office basic periodontal surgery and implant placement that was previously referred to a specialist. Patients will appreciate it.
